Creating a prerequisite for a product
Prerequisites are products that must be purchased by the client on a prior order before a specific product can be purchased. For example, if you run a membership organization, a membership (product) might be required before any other products (membership magazine, patches) can be bought.
To create a prerequisite product:
- Go to Product->Products and find the product that should depend on another.
- Edit the product and click on the prerequisites tab.
- Type in the name or code of the product this product should require. As you type the field will display results that match what you've typed so far.
- Click the + to add the prerequisite. From now on, it will only be possible to add this product to a quote or sales order if a client has previously ordered the prerequisite.
In the case of an annual or periodic membership, you can create a new product for each membership term and update your products prerequisites to require the current membership product.
